Vicky Shen

Vicky Shen is a Ph.D. Student in the Department of History at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research looks at the Japanese sugar industry in the Asia Pacific in the early 20th Century. Her dissertation project explores the environmental and socio-cultural history of sugar by looking at the exchange and transfer of agriculture laborers, technologies, and botany between the Japanese and US empires. She is broadly interested in the themes of indigneity, capitalism, and empires.
