Digital Atlas Design Internship Application

Thank you for your interest in registering for the Digital Atlas Design Internship. By enrolling in the internship, you can earn credit for planning and completing a web-based Digital Atlas on a topic of your choosing.

The World History Center is currently accepting applications for the spring 2024 internship. Fill out the Google Form to apply. Apply by October 20, 2023 for a guaranteed review of your application.

The Internship is a pass-fail three-credit opportunity open to Pitt students from any major. Interns need not have prior training in GIS or web design. Learning the necessary technical skills to complete an Atlas is one aspect of internship instruction.  All you need to participate in the internship is a plan for a topic that you think would make a good interactive map, one that explains something about the global or transregional past. You must be willing to publicly share your Atlas and the data behind it.

During the internship semester, you will work primarily with the World History Center Digital History Postdoctoral Fellow, who convenes all interns as a group each week. You will also meet monthly with the World History Center Director, who is the Academic Supervisor of the internship; and monthly as well with a Content Advisor, a faculty member who will provide expert guidance about your topic.
