Research Interests
Bennett is a world historian specializing in refugees and forced migration. His research explores the role of transnational refugee groups and human rights ngos in the development of a global refugee system during the twentieth century. His manuscript in progress examines the role of a global network of Iranian refugee and human rights groups in reshaping the work of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Turkey. A second project, "Marching on their Stomachs," explores the entangled histories of humanitarian relief for wounded soldiers and refugees from 1863 to 1930.
Bennett is currently working on a new World History course with Gates Ventures (the people that brought you the Big History Project). His teaching interests include world history, globalization, human rights, and the modern Middle East.
