Karl Grossner

Karl Grossner is a geographer and research software developer specializing in semantic models and systems for representing historical geographic information. He earned his PhD in Geography at University of California, Santa Barbara in 2010 and subsequently co-created several digital GeoHumanities projects while at Stanford University Libraries (2012-2016), including Çatalhöyük Living ArchiveCityNatureAuthorial London, and ORBIS: The Geospatial Network Model of the Roman World. Karl currently serves as Technical Director and lead developer for the World Historical Gazetteer project at the World History Center, and is leading development of the related Linked Places and Linked Traces models and data format standards.
