Global Italian Diaspora Working Group Launched

Map of travel routes from Italy outward

The World History Center’s newest working group, the Italian Diaspora Archive Resource Map Project, met for the first time virtually this month. The ambitious project explores the collaborative networks around—and innovative digital approaches to—cataloguing the wealth of archival materials relating to the Italian diasporic experience.

In particular, the working group will identify, catalogue, and map archival materials related to the Italian diaspora present in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. Situating the region, including the city of Pittsburgh, within the Italian diasporic experience continues to advance the World History Center’s commitment to research about global communities in motion and the theme of a global Pittsburgh.
