Congratulation to WHC Post Susan Grunewald on New Position at LSU!

The World History Center would like to congratulate Digital History Postdoctoral Associate Susan Grunewald on her new role as an Assistant Professor of 20th Century European History at Louisiana State University, which will begin in August 2022. Dr. Grunewald started at the World History Center in summer 2019 after finishing her PhD in History across Panther Hollow at Carnegie Mellon University. Her historical research examines German prisoners of war in the Soviet Union during and after the Second World War, including a large geographic information system (GIS) mapping component.

Over the past three years at the World History Center, Dr. Grunewald has taught the Digital Atlas Design Internship each semester and has mentored approximately 40 students in completing their digital spatial narrative projects through the internship. She has also served as an instructor of History 0700: World History at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Grunewald has been a key member of the World Historical Gazetteer team. She has continued to develop datasets, publish articles, and present nationally and internationally for both this project as well as her own research. Her book manuscript, a continuation of her dissertation, is under contract with Cornell University Press for their Battlegrounds series in military history.

The World History Center will miss Dr. Grunewald but wishes her well on her future endeavors at LSU. We are sad to lose her, but we are happy that this former Pitt Panther will become an LSU Tiger.
