Call for proposals - WHC Working Groups for 2018-19

The World History Center is calling for proposals to establish up to three WHC Working Groups for the 2018-19 academic year with the purpose of exploring a shared theme of interest related to the global past.  Each group will receive funding for regular meetings, access to Center facilities, official recognition through the Center, and space on the Center website to publicize activities and disseminate results.

Applicants should describe:

  • A topic for shared discussion that involves global or transregional connections, movements, or processes in the human past
  • The merit of a working group for exploring that topic
  • A program of activity for the 2018-19 academic year
  • How the working group will foster individual or collaborative research or teaching beyond the funded year (e.g. by laying the groundwork for new research, publication, teaching, or grant applications)

Working Groups are open to faculty and students from any department or school. The applicant group must include at least three people, including at least one faculty member and at least one graduate student. We favor interdisciplinary applicant groups. Proposals should include a 1-2-page description, a list of potential members, and a budget for up to $750 in funding.  Proposals are due April 15th, 2018 and can be submitted electronically to whc@pitt.edu.  Please contact the WHC if you have any questions.
