Call for Proposals: Spring 2022 Research and Travel Funding

The World History Center is happy to announce a call for proposals from Pitt full-time and part-time faculty and graduate students for research and travel funding. Funding is available for expenses to participate in an academic conference or to conduct research in the field. We will also consider funding for services such as digitizing archival materials, or paying reproduction rights for images or transcription and translation fees. Field of study is open; the applicant need only demonstrate that the proposed activity contributes to insight about the human past at the transregional or global scale. We will entertain budgets for requests between $250 and $1000.

The application consists of a half-page letter of application and a CV. The letter of application should include the following:

  • A clear explanation of how the grant will contribute to the world-historical aspect of your larger research agenda.
  • A budget statement that enumerates costs related to the proposal.
  • Pertinent details about your proposed activity (for example, names of libraries or archives or specific information about transcription or translation services to be contracted).
  • Graduate students should have their main faculty advisor send a short email to WHC@pitt.edu in which they indicate that the applicant is in good standing and the advisor supports the student’s research plan.

All travel expenses must comply with the Dietrich School’s guidelines for health and safety. Please be aware that the WHC may offer only partial support for your proposed budget. Expenses must be incurred during the 2022 Spring and Summer terms and no later than June 2022. Awardees are expected to write a one-paragraph report for submission to the World History Center about their funded activity within two weeks of its conclusion.
