“India in America:” A Curatorial Conversation on the Work and Practice of Lockwood de Forest and Ahmedabad Wood Carving Company

Join us for a conversation on the work and practice of turn-of-the-century artist, designer, and decorator Lockwood de Forest and the Ahmedabad Wood Carving Company. World History Center GSA Katie Loney (History of Art and Architecture, University of Pittsburgh) and PhD candidate Nina Blomfield (History of Art, Bryn Mawr College) will discuss two upcoming exhibitions on the furnishings made by de Forest and the Ahmedabad Wood Carving Company as well as the designer’s interior decorating programs at Bryn Mawr College. “India in America:” East Indian Furnishings Between Ahmedabad and Bryn Mawr is a digital exhibition curated by Katie Loney and supported by the World History Center. “All-Over” Design: Lockwood de Forest Between Ahmedabad and Bryn Mawr, curated by Nina Blomfield, will open at Bryn Mawr College on October 24, 2019 with an accompanying catalog to be released in 2020.
